Snow dogs Iceland

We are Snow Dogs :) a group of 25 Siberian Husky sled dogs that love to play.   We live in our open kennel with our Icelandic local family on a farm close to Lake Mývatn, North Iceland.  480 km(300 miles) from Reykjavík

Come and experience how much we love to pull a sled, on snow in the Winter, and on our special off road wheel carts in summer.   You are always welcome to come and visit us at our kennel and give us belly rubs, meet our pups and learn about dog sledding.

How many people go on a sled?

Usually 2 customers/sled and one guide.   Families with children under 12 years go together on one bigger family sled.

How much time to we spend on the sled and what distance will we cover?

Time can vary quite a bit depending on the dogs, people, weather and trail conditions. So on average, the 2 hour tour is out for about 45-60 minutes on the trail and covers about 7-8 km.

Our wonderful Huskies

All the dogs are pure breed Siberian Husky and most of them are from the Kennel Múla ræktun (www.icelandichusky.com).

Our dogs mostly come from 2 separate litters.,Thee first one was from Atlas and Þruma, with  total of 6 puppies, who are all now  big part of our pack.. Atlas has been our most prolific sled dog and it  was for that reason we chose him for breeding. He also loves people more than most dogs do. Þruma is very clever, beautiful and really easy to work with sled dog. We are very excited watching tour young dogs develop,  they are becoming  great sleddogs, who are  also delightful to be around and very beautiful.

The second litter is from Atlas and Tara and who also had 6 puppies.  They are now teenagers and fully involved in all our dog sledding tours. Tara is one of our best lead dogs on the sleds, as she is  very focused and  hardworking. Also, she is  wonderful to have, as she is one of  our softest and sweetest dogs.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               The newest additions  to the pack come from our third litter born in 2017.

This litter comes from Askja and Evo. They had 4 beautiful puppies. Evo, is our oldest dogs, but still loves to go out on the sleds. He is sweet dog and our alpha male. Askja is a young mum but very caring to her puppies, and becoming a great lead dog out on the sleds. Hopefully these puppies will  be out running on the sleds for the winter 2018-2019.

Where are we?

We recommend to sleep here in Lake Mývatn area the night before your dog sledding tour.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT GOOGLE MAPS DOES NOT HAVE OUR ROAD IN ITS SYSTEM. PLEASE FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS BELOW FOR THE FINAL SECTION OF THE DRIVE TO OUR FARM.

From Akureyri:

Drive road nr.1 from Akureyri for about 80 km. Instead of taking a right turn like you do if you continue driving on road nr. 1, you continue straight ahead on road 848 for about 1,5 km. Make a right turn when you see the sign "Baldursheimur road 849".   Continue on that road for 5 km than you will see the sign "Heiði" and make a right turn there and drive to our farm about 3,5 km.  There is a small bridge on the way with a gate.

Don´t worry if the gate is closed it is because of sheep.

Please open the gate and close behind you.

Please do not hesitate to call if you need any help with directions.
